VOEWOFO WORKSHOP WITH KEY STAKE HOLDER WITHIN THE CLEAN ENERGY SECTORS

VOEWOFO arranged workshop on 20th March 2018, with several stake holders which were held at same district in Kilimanjaro region, targeted in intensive discussion on how to improve environmental conservation by utilization of sustainable clean energy in the same District. Stakeholder’s attended the workshop were, District commissioner, Regional commissioner, facilitator from Sokoine University Of Agriculture (SUA), representative from Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), representative from Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Mobisol representative, Green light representative, Women from several group (VSLs), Regional and District environmental officers, Forest officers, Mkomazi NP representative, Environmental  NGO’s(FLORESTA, YEFUKA FARM, SAIPRO TRUST FUND ), Journalists (ITV and clouds 360), Tanzania Forest Service (TFS), Community Based Trainers (CBT)

Main Objective

    • Sustainable conservation of the environment by utilization of clean energy.

Major Objective.

  • Discussion on challenges facing clean energy operations.
  • Analyzing the possible solutions to the addressed challenges.

The extent of environmental degradation in Kilimanjaro region, have been analyzed that, clean energy products only 2% of population have accesses and use to it. The population demand for it is highly needed although supply is very low and with high price. Care – baseline survey 2017.

The following were the analyzed challenges facing clean energy operation.

  1. Lack of conservation education
  2. Lack of access to fund
  3. Counterfeit of products in the market
  4. Lack of access to clean energy
  5. Negative attitude towards clean energy
  6. High price to clean energy
  7. Fewer of stakeholders in clean energy
  8. Higher taxes coast from the government
  9. Technical issues (leadership, TBS, stakeholders)
  10. Law enforcement in the conservation areas.

Since women are more responsible in utilization of energy.What to be done to her to improve the situation.

  1. To facilitate women groups this will be based to environmental conservation.
  2. To establish entrepreneurship projects.
  3. Gender education
  4. Funds to women groups
  5. Improve availability of the product in rural areas
  6. Encourage increase of suppliers of the products.
  7. Provide them with small projects to increase their income.
  8. Linking women’s with financial support institutions.
  9. Provide them with loans with affordable interest.
